West Indies are on a mission to avenge their Test series defeat in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa. The series starts with the first match on Saturday in Grenada. It will host all the remaining T20Is as well. Windies are 10th in the ICC T20I rankings heading into this series. The rankings do not do justice to the firepower that the current team holds.

West Indies beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in another series that they played before this one. The series is a dress rehearsal for the upcoming T20 World Cup. They have named a full-strength squad for the five-match series against South Africa.

In this article, we predict the playing XI of West Indies for the second T20I. The squad is filled with specialists and so will be the playing XI as well.

At 40, The Universe Boss has still got the hunger to perform at the highest level. He is looking for one final appearance for the Windies in the upcoming T20 World Cup and helping them become champions. Gayle starts for West Indies at the top of the order.

Lendl Simmons

Simmons is one of the cricketers in the squad who played in the last T20 World Cup. He like many in the team is a T20 specialist playing all-around the world. Together Simmons and Gayle will be tough opposition for the Protean bowlers.

Evin Lewis

Another left-hander Lewis will follow the openers at number three. He likes to bat in the top-order and should do his bit batting at number three.

Kieron Pollard

West Indies all rounder
Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder[photo: Twitter]
Pollard will bat at number four. He is the player with the most number of T20 matches to his credit. In the recent series against Sri Lanka, he hit Akila Dananjaya for six sixes in six balls to get into the T20I record books. He will also lead the team in the series.

Nicholas Pooran

Pooran will bat at number five. He will also don the gloves behind the stumps. He is a batsman who can bat at any position. Batting at number five will give him an absolute license to go after the South African bowlers. He is the next big thing in Windies cricket.

Andre Russell

Russell played his last T20I for West Indies against Sri Lanka last year. He scored a 14-ball 40 in the second game to give a glimpse of his big-hitting prowess. He makes a return to this Windies T20I side.

Dwayne Bravo

Bravo will slot in at number seven in the line-up. He is the man with the most T20 wickets having played the format all over the world. He is another member of the current Windies side who won the T20 World Cup in 2016. Over time, he has most T20 wickets to his credit.

Jason Holder

Jason Holder is the only member of the West Indies Test team to be included in the T20I team that has been announced for this series. The former Windies skipper is the only all-format player in the team. With his pace and bounce, he can be a handy option in this dead track.

Fabian Allen

Allen is a hard-hitter with the bat and a handly spin option with the ball. The current T20I side has enough batting depth and the addition of Allen just proves the same. Along with his batting and bowling potentials, he is a great fielder anywhere in the park.

Fidel Edwards

The veteran pacer also played his last T20I against Sri Lanka earlier this year. At 39, this is a comeback of sorts for Fidel Edwards. A good performance in this series can help him get selected in the Windies??? side for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Obed McCoy

McCoy culminates the West Indies predicted playing XI for the second T20I against South Africa. He is just five matches old into his T20I career. He has a lot of variations up his sleeves and that makes him a difficult bowler to score off, especially in the death overs.
