What Else Can He Do To Get Into The Indian Squad? – Dilip Vengsarkar Calls For Sarfaraz Khan's Inclusion In Team India

Former India captain, 1983 World Cup-winning player, and the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector, Dilip Vengsarkar, has said that the 24-year-old batter Sarfaraz Khan should be included in the Indian team.

The young Mumbai batter has been in terrific form in the Ranji Trophy 2022. He recently smashed 153 runs in the quarter-final of the marquee domestic competition against Uttarakhand.

Also, he had scores of 165, 63, 48 and 275 in the last three league stage matches of the Ranji Trophy 2022. Last season, he had scored 928 runs in the Ranji Trophy. Overall in 23 first-class games, he has scored 2252 runs at an extraordinary average of 80.4.

Vengsarkar said that Sarfaraz should have been playing for India as he has scored plenty of runs in domestic cricket.

“He should have been playing for India at the moment. He has scored tons of runs every time (in Ranji Trophy). And if the selectors are still not convinced, then I am really surprised,” Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

“What else can he do to get into the Indian squad? Every year, he has scored more than 800 runs for Mumbai,” he went on to say.

He further said that the 24-year-old batter is very fit and he has the ability to play long innings.

“I have seen him since he was 12. He is a street-smart cricketer. He is always hungry for success. He is very fit and the most important thing is that he can play long innings,” Vengsarkar said.

Former India captain added that a batsman like Sarfaraz always helps the team.

“He is an improviser. And you need somebody to accelerate the scoring rate. A batsman like him helps the team because he keeps the scoreboard moving all the time,” the Indian batting great said.
