Snehasish Ganguly, the elder brother of Sourav Ganguly, has revealed why the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president has backed out of the race to become the Cricket Association of Bengal’s next president.

Notably, Sourav, who had been the CAB president for four years between 2015 to 2019, has backed out of filing his nomination for the top job in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), and his elder brother Snehasish is all set to be elected as president uncontested at the upcoming AGM on October 31.

Snehasish, who is set to replace Avishek Dalmiya as the CAB president, spoke to India Today on Sunday and said that Sourav Ganguly backed out because no CAB elections were being held. He said:

“When Sourav came back from BCCI, he decided he would contest for the CAB president role if elections happened. Otherwise, He decided he would not contest. But the situation was different. Here all the clubs are like family. In CAB, every time we see selections not elections. We don’t believe in elections. This is the trend of CAB and it is going on. We know that. Every part is like our family.”

The former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly also opened up on his decision not to file his nomination for the top job in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

“I had said that I would contest only if there’s election,” Ganguly told reporters at Eden Gardens after he chose not to file his papers for the president’s post on the last date of nomination. “There’s not going to be any election, so it will be uncontested.”

“Had I been there, it would have meant two or more people would not get any posts. So, I’ve moved aside. I would have been elected uncontested, but I don’t think it’s right. Others would not have got the opportunity to work for this association. They will be working for these three years now and we will see after that.”
