The Mumbai Indians (MI) are in serious trouble in the ongoing IPL 2026, and things are only getting more tense before their next match. As they get ready to face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4, the biggest question is around the availability of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.
This IPL 2026 match is a do-or-die match for both the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants teams. In the points table, both MI and LSG are sitting at the bottom—9th and 10th place, respectively. Their playoff chances are almost ended, but still alive mathematically.
MI and LSG desperate for a crucial IPL 2026 win
That means this Wankhede game is like a last chance to stay in the race. Mumbai Indians are coming into this game after losing three matches in a row, including a one-sided defeat against Chennai Super Kings. Their batting returned to form, but bowling remains a big concern for MI.

The Lucknow Super Giants are also struggling badly. They have just 2 wins from 8 matches and are on a five-match losing streak. They are coming into this match after a heartbreaking loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in a Super Over. Now, they are aiming for improved performance against MI.
No clear update on Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the LSG clash
Meanwhile, the biggest headache for the Mumbai Indians is Rohit Sharma’s fitness. Rohit Sharma has been out for almost three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 clash against RCB. Rohit Sharma was recently seen practicing in the nets, which gives some hope.
But there is still no clarity on whether Rohit Sharma will turn up for MI in their IPL 2026 clash against LSG on Monday. There are also some doubts over Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for this crucial match. He has been playing regularly this season despite poor outings.
In 9 matches, Bumrah has bowled 33 overs with an economy of 8.61. The team has been depending too much on him. He is still trying his best, but the workload is clearly high. Because of this, there is talk about whether MI should give Bumrah some rest.

No rest for Jasprit Bumrah: Mahela Jayawardene refuses to give up as MI fight to stay alive
But MI coach Mahela Jayawardene has denied the idea by saying that they still believe they can win their remaining matches and finish the season on a positive note.
Jayawardene said at the pre-match press conference, as quoted by The Times of India, “We are not yet out, are we? It’s too early for me to say anything; we still have five more games, and anything can happen for us. We just need to finish the tournament positively and see what happens. There’s a lot more cricket to be played; I don’t think mathematically we’re out from the tournament, so I’m going to fight, and I’m sure the rest of the boys will do the same as well.”
Apart from Bumrah, other players like Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and captain Hardik Pandya have also not been consistent, which has made things worse. Now, if they fail to win this game against LSG, the five-time champions’ early elimination will be officially confirmed.
