The Indian cricket team defeated their archrivals, the Pakistan cricket team, in the 19th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led team pulled the victory out of nowhere as they beat the Babar Azam-led team by six runs in their Group A clash of the prestigious T20 tournament.

The Indian team was bowled out for just 119 runs in 19 overs after being asked to bat first at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9. The Indian bowlers made a sensational comeback to restrict the Pakistan team to 113 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Virat Kohli (4) was dismissed off Naseem Shah in the second over. Shaheen Afridi picked up the wicket of Rohit Sharma, who scored 13 runs off 12 balls, in the next over. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel tried to build the partnership after early wickets. The duo added 39 runs off 30 balls for the third wicket.

Axar Patel (20) was cleaned up by Naseem while trying to slog. Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact as he managed just seven runs. The Indian team collapsed from 87/3 to 119 all out in the second half of the innings. Naseem and Haris Rauf took three wickets each, while Mohammad Amir bagged two.

India Breaks the Win Predictor Jinx Twice In A Row

Pakistan scored 57 runs for the loss of one wicket at the halfway stage. Babar Azam scored 13 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. Pakistan positioned themselves as the favorites to win the match. The win predictor indicated that Pakistan had a 92 percent chance of winning the match at one stage.

Pakistan scored 80 runs for the loss of three wickets in 14 overs. However, the game shifted dramatically at the start of the 15th over when Jasprit Bumrah bowled Mohammad Rizwan with a length ball. Rizwan (31 off 44) attempted a wild heave across the line against the best bowler in the opposition team.

The Babar Azam-led team ended their innings at 113-7 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding for India in the low-scoring match. The pacer delivered a remarkable spell of 4-0-14-3, which shifted the match in India's favor. He earned his second consecutive 'Player of the Match' award in the tournament.

We Didn't Bat Well Enough - Rohit Sharma

At the post-match presentation, India captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged his team’s disappointing batting performance. He noted that they were in a decent position at 81 for three but fell short by 15-20 runs.

"We didn't bat well enough. Halfway through when we were batting, we were in a good position. We were 81 for three down. You expect the guys to stitch partnerships. We were 15-20 runs short. We spoke that every run matters on this ground. We were looking at 140 but nevertheless, the bowlers came and did the job for us," Rohit said.
