India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is seen as the next batting superstar emerging from the country. The left-handed opener has already announced his entry into international cricket with a bang.
Jaiswal played another magnificent knock during the second innings of the first Test between Australia and India. During this knock, he surpassed New Zealand's great Brendon McCullum and went on top of this list.

Yashasvi Jaiswal surpasses Brendon McCullum to achieve historic milestone
Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten on 90 off 193 balls until stumps on Day 2. He has smashed 7 fours and 2 sixes in his innings so far. When he hit the second six, he moved past former New Zealand batter Brendon McCullum's tally of 33 sixes in a calendar year in Tests.
Jaiswal now has 34 sixes in 2024, which is the most by any batter in Test cricket in a single calendar year. He is still unbeaten in this knock and could add more to his tally. He will play three more Tests this year after the ongoing match and is likely strengthen his record further.

Brendon McCullum held this record for a long time. He achieved the milestone way back in 2014. England allrounder Ben Stokes hit 26 sixes in 2022 and is third on this list. Adam Gilchrist and Virender Sehwag complete the top five with 22 sixes to their name each.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is having a wonderful year in Tests so far. The left-hander top-scored in the Test series against England earlier this year and played a key role in India's series win. He was also adjudged the Player of the Series for his performance.
In the current WTC cycle, Jaiswal is second on the list, just behind Joe Root in terms of scoring runs. He has scored runs consistently in the WTC 2023-25 cycle and has established himself as one of the top openers in world cricket.
India in firm control of the Perth Test
Meanwhile, India are in firm control of the Perth Test and have put Australia right on the backfoot. The Men in Blue are 172-0 at stumps on Day 2 and are leading by 218 runs with all the 10 wickets remaining.
Jaiswal is just 10 runs short of a well-deserved hundred while KL Rahul is giving him good company with an unbeaten 62. Both the batters have shown excellent resilience so far and have batted patiently to keep Australia at bay. Both of them will be looking to carry forward this partnership further to take India to an even stronger position.
