Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra has said that countering the seaming and swinging conditions in England will be a tough job for the Indian batsmen as opposed to the Kiwi batsmen. He said that Indian batsmen are less experienced than New Zealand batsmen in playing the swing. Meanwhile, day 1 of the ICC World Test Championship final was washed out due to consistent rain. With the reserve day added on, there are still five days of play left potentially. However, there are chances of rain on all the remaining days of the final as well.
In an interview with JK 24×7 News, Amit Mishra shared his views on the first edition of the WTC final. On being asked about how the English conditions will impact the final, Mishra said that the Kiwi batsmen are playing in similar conditions since childhood and thus can counter the Indian pace attack easily.
“Bumrah, Shami and Ishant have the experience of playing in English conditions, but their (New Zealand’s) batsmen have been playing in conditions like these since their childhood days.
Only 2-3 Indian Batsmen Have Enough Experience of Playing in England- Amit Mishra
On the contrary, Amit Mishra said that only a couple of Indian batsmen have prior experience of playing in English conditions and the rest might find it difficult against the class of the Kiwi pacers.
“Our home conditions are different. I think only 2-3 Indian batsmen have enough experience of playing in England, whereas their batsmen have grown up playing domestic cricket in almost similar conditions.”
The veteran Indian spinner further said that India will not find it easy to win the final given the adverse conditions that they are playing in. Mishra further said that the Indian bowlers give them an advantage but the Kiwi batters are well-placed to counter them.
“I am supporting the Indian cricket team in the WTC Final, but the English conditions may not favor our team. It will be difficult for India. The boys will have to work hard” concluded Mishra.
