WV Raman’s removal as head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team has sparked a considerable amount of controversy. The BCCI decided to re-appoint Ramesh Powar in his position, a spot he already held on an interim basis previously. Moreover, a day after WV Raman’s sacking, he alleged the BCCI of a smear campaign against him, but he thanked secretary Jay Shah for his kind words without going into much details.
WV Raman shot a letter to the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly in which he mentioned that it would be disappointing if he were stripped of as the coach for any reason other than his incompetency. Raman was also of the view that the BCCI might have got different ideas about his functioning and ethics. However, the 55-year old expressed concern about the smear campaign gaining some unwarranted action and called for it to stop permanently. Raman also conceded that he is prepared to deliver any explanation to the office bearers.
“I presume you might have been told different views about my style of functioning and work ethic. Whether those views conveyed to the officials of the BCCI had any impact on my candidature is of no consequence now. What is important is that the smear campaign seems to have gained some unwarranted traction with some BCCI officials which needs to be halted permanently. I am prepared to give an explanation should you or any of the office bearers require it,” Raman said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
WV Raman took to his official Twitter handle and thanked Jay Shah for his kind words in his communication and appreciated the effort. But he did not mention anything beyond that or disclosed further details.
Below is WV Raman’s tweet:
