Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal continued to rock and shine in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series and achieved the record of hitting the most sixes in Test cricket by an Indian batsman in a calendar year.

Jaiswal has already smashed 23 sixes in 2024 and surpassed Virender Sehwag, who held the record before the young left-handed Indian opener. Sehwag hit 22 sixes in 2008 whereas, Rishabh Pant is in the third spot with 21 sixes in the year 2022.

It is just the start of the year and Yashasvi Jaiswal has smashed 23 sixes to become the leading six-hitter in a calendar year for India. However, Jaiswal needs just 11 sixes to take over Kiwi legend Brendon McCullum to hit the most sixes in a year.

McCullum currently holds a record and hit 33 sixes in the year 2014, whereas, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes is currently in the 2nd spot with 26 sixes in a calendar year. Jaiswal also overtook former Australia wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist and is currently the third batsman in the world to hit the most sixes in a year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieves a brilliant record in the fourth IND vs ENG Test

Most Test cricket sixes in a calendar year for India:
23 – Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2024
22 – Virender Sehwag in 2008
21 – Rishabh Pant in 2022

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in red-hot form in the ongoing Test series against England. Jaiswal has already smashed two double-hundreds in the ongoing series and over 500 runs from 6 innings. Jaiswal is the leading run-scorer of the series and is continuing the same form in the fourth IND vs ENG Test match.

Getting back to the match, England ended their first innings at a score of 353 runs in their first innings courtesy of an unbeaten 122-run knock from batsman Joe Root. Root smashed 10 fours during his stay and returned to form grandly.

Root also added 102 runs from 163 balls for the 8th wicket along with bowler Ollie Robinson. The right-handed pacer played an important in helping the English team put up a respectable first innings total. Robinson played an innings of 58 runs from 96 balls with 9 fours and 1 six.

As England were wrapped up for 353 runs, the Indian team also didn’t start off well and lost captain Rohit Sharma for 2 runs. Rohit edged a delivery from James Anderson which went away from the Indian captain. However, the Indian team was able to overcome the early damage as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill added 82 runs from 131 balls for the 2nd wicket.

Gill was looking good and scored 38 runs from 65 balls. The Indian team would be aiming to put up a solid batting display against England in reply to their first innings score.

England ended up losing the last match against India by 434 runs and faced a humiliating defeat. The three lions would be aiming to level the series by winning the fourth Test match in Ranchi. However, they faced the same old problem of relying on individual performances. England were 112/5 at one stage and if Joe Root hadn’t scored a ton, the Three Lions could have ended their innings well before the 250-run mark.

India, on the other hand, put up a combined bowling display, wherein Akash Deep picked up 3 wickets whereas all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ended up with a four-wicket haul.
