Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant 40 off 21 balls in the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday. His aggressive start gave India the leeway within the power[play. He added a 74-run stand inside the powerplay which is India's Highest powerplay score in 2024. He now needs just seven more runs to score 1000 international runs in 2024.
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the former, Jaiswal is being seen as a potential replacement for Rohit Sharma who started this belligerent style of batting during the ODI World Cup last year and maintained it through to the T20 World Cup 2024. Jaiswal who is a naturally aggressive player is now looking to continue the same way.
Before starting his innings on Saturday, He needed 47 runs to become the first batsman in 2024 to score 1000 international runs. He brought down the deficit by 40 runs and needs just seven runs to get to the 1000-run mark. He has scored 993 runs this year so far and is way ahead of the next best Ibrahim Zadran who has scored 884 runs this year so far.
In six Test matches this year so far, he has scored 740 runs at an average of 74.00 and a strike rate of 80. Five out of the six Test matches this year he played against England scoring 712 runs at a brilliant average of 89 and a strike rate of almost 80.

Jaiswal was the third opener in the side as India clinched their second-ever T20 World Cup title and the first ICC trophy in 11 years. Now under Gautam Gambhir, the management is looking to give him a longer run in all three- formats. He has yet to play ODI cricket for India and is not a part of the ODI squad for the three-match series.
Shubmaan Gill, the Indian vice-captain after the game spoke about batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has been batting with him since the Zimbabwe T20I series and forged a good combination together. They have added a few 100-ryun partnerships as well. On Saturday, they added 74 inside the powerplay.
"It is great batting with him (Jaiswal) and we complement each other. Our style is different, our plan is simple - assess the conditions and then take on the bowlers. When you are opening the innings, see how the pitch is behaving and play accordingly (that's the plan)," Gill said in the post-match presentation.
Ashish Nehra doing commentary for Sony Sports Hindi had a little bit of fun with Jaiswal after the game saying that he would not have played this match had Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not retired from T20Is.
