Yashasvi Jaiswal rewrites history books with Delhi Test ton, now only behind Don Bradman

Yashasvi Jaiswal lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium as India took full control on the opening day of the ongoing second and final Test against the West Indies. Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his seventh Test century in just 145 balls, showing why he is one of the brightest stars of the modern era.

After lunch, the young Indian opener came out with confidence and immediately took charge. He smashed Jayden Seales for three clean boundaries in the very first over of the session. His timing, calmness, and smart shot selection impressed everyone.

Well, this century was more than just another number for Jaiswal. At only 23, the left-handed batter has already scored five 150s in Test cricket; only the legendary Don Bradman (8) has more such scores before turning 24. He now becomes only the second player with this feat.

Additionally, Sachin Tendulkar, Graeme Smith, and Javed Miandad also had four 150s in their Test careers before turning 24. Jaiswal also becomes only the second Indian to have smashed seven or more hundreds before turning 24. Sachin Tendulkar has the most hundreds (11) at this age.

Other Indian greats like Ravi Shastri and Dilip Vengsarkar had five centuries each by the age of 23, which shows just how impressive Jaiswal’s achievement is in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal also became the fastest Indian opener to reach seven centuries before 24, achieving it in just 47 innings. Graeme Smith, who also scored seven centuries at a young age, took 50 innings to reach the same mark. Len Hutton (5) and Alastair Cook (5) also feature in the list.

Looking at world cricket, Jaiswal is now part of an elite group of players who scored seven or more Test centuries before turning 24. Only Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garry Sobers (9) had more centuries by this age.

Additionally, the young Indian opener joins the likes of Alastair Cook, Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, and Kane Williamson, all of whom had seven centuries before turning 24. During his innings, Jaiswal reached another huge milestone, crossing 3,000 international runs in just 50 matches.

At only 23, Yashasvi became the fourth Indian left-handed opener to reach this mark, joining the elite company of Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, and Shikhar Dhawan. This achievement highlights not just his talent but also his consistency and ability to perform at the highest level from a young age.

Jaiswal also made history in the World Test Championship (WTC) by surpassing Usman Khawaja and Dimuth Karunaratne. The Mumbai batter becomes the second player with the most centuries in the WTC, just behind Rohit Sharma, who has nine WTC centuries.

The fearless batter is now marching towards his maiden double hundred in Test cricket. He is currently batting at 173 off 249 balls against the West Indies in the ongoing second Test in Delhi. The youngster already hit 22 boundaries during his record-breaking knock.
