Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad opened up about the conversation with Yashasvi Jaiswal after the southpaw ran him out in the first T20I against Australia. The right-hander said that they mutually decided that they wouldn’t take risky singles in the further games.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t gel well as opening partners in the first game. The duo was involved in a horrible mixup and the right-hander had to walk back to the pavilion for a diamond duck. But after that game, they have got a good understanding of each other.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal since then have run between the wickets pretty well and have given the team good starts. The southpaw has been aggressive whereas the former has tried to hold the one end and bat throughout the innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad talked about his partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal and said that they both are focused on the first two overs. He also added that his opening partner apologized to him for running him out in the first game. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:

“After the first match, we decided that we’d be off from risky singles. We’ll just look for boundaries. He’s someone who takes the game on and regardless of any situation, he likes to be aggressive. The discussion has always been that if the wicket is suitable, we’ll go with a positive intent. But I think the focus is taking care of the first two overs.

“After he (Jaiswal) got out (in the first match), he was walking in and he immediately said sorry. I said it’s ok, it happens and it was maybe a mistake. I think mistakes do happen, so I am fine with that.”

IND vs AUS: I learned a lot about this format playing for CSK – Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad also talked about his learnings playing for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni. He explained that Dhoni always tells him to not rush his thoughts. He explained:

“I learned a lot about this format playing for CSK. Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) is always keen on reading situations and understanding the game. He sends a message that you have to look for the team score and what the team requires irrespective of the situation of the game.

“In T20s you always have to be ahead of the game mentally and I give a lot of importance to that. The night before, I visualise what kind of situation may occur during the game, how the pitch may behave. Mahi bhai always insists that we don’t rush our thoughts, because there’s enough time for an opener even in a T20 match.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad has set the stage on fire in the ongoing T20I series against Australia. The batter has scored 213 runs to go with one ton and one half-century.
