The 23-year-old, who last played a T20I for India in July 2024, will join the defending champions for the rest of the tournament. This update came just a day after he helped India win the ODI series in Visakhapatnam with a match-winning century.

“He has made himself available for the SMAT campaign in the super league," a top Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz on Sunday (December 7).

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Previous SMAT Performance and Absence

Yashasvi Jaiswal has a good record in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has played 28 matches in the tournament, scoring 648 runs at a strike rate of 136.42, including three half-centuries.

The left-handed batter last played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy during the 2023–24 quarter-final and missed the previous edition because he was busy with the Indian team.

His return is big news for Mumbai. The team, led by Shardul Thakur, already has a successful opening pair in Ajinkya Rahane and Ayush Mhatre. Mhatre has been in great form, scoring 325 runs at an average of over 100.

Rohit Sharma May Join Mumbai for the Next Round of SMAT 2025 Matches

Mumbai will miss Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Ayush Mhatre in the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. Surya and Dube will be with the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against South Africa starting on December 9 in Cuttack.

Ayush Mhatre, who is the top run-scorer in SMAT 2025 with two centuries, will also be unavailable. He will travel to Dubai to lead India’s U19 team in the U19 Asia Cup beginning on December 12.

In positive news, Rohit Sharma may join Mumbai for the next round of matches. He retired from T20Is in June 2024 but has shown interest in playing for the domestic side again. Rohit last played a T20 match on June 1, 2025, for Mumbai Indians (IPL) in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025.
