Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has said that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni had great mutual respect between them and Kohli during his stint as a captain even let Dhoni hand little details in the game.

Virat Kohli took the captaincy from legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni to become the all-format captain of India. So far, he has been doing a great job as an Indian captain. However, the ICC trophy cabinet of Virat Kohli is still empty as India have not been able to perform well in the ICC tournaments.

Also, Kohli has stepped down from the T20I captaincy, and Rohit Sharma has been named as full-time captain of India. He led India towards a comfortable victory over New Zealand in his first assignment.

Bharat Arun speaking in an interview with Indian Express, talked about the bond between Kohli and Dhoni and said:

Ravi told the importance of having a senior member like Dhoni in the team. It was about giving a lot of respect and he would definitely help him. Kohli understood that of course and it was a seamless transition.

“You could see the respect in the way Kohli would often let Dhoni handle little details and prowl on the boundary in ODIs. That kind of stuff can’t have happened without trust and respect. And Dhoni also saw he was given the space and responded so well,”

Talking about Ravi Shastri’s stint as a Head Coach, Arun said that decisions in the team were taken purely thinking about team value.

Fearlessness and honesty. During his tenure, there was absolutely no agenda. The decisions might have been right or wrong, that is irrelevant, but they came from the right place, purely thinking about team values and what we stood for as a team.

” Honesty encompasses criticism, self-introspection. It was in telling the team that ‘accept that we messed up’. It helped us evolve the team,” he added.
