Team India’s former premier all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) and confirmed that he is not running for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Yuvraj denied all the circulating information regarding him vying for the Gurdaspur seat in Punjab, which is currently held by Bollywood star Sunny Deol. It means that Yuvi will not become one of those former cricketers who take up Politics post-retirement.

The likes of Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sourav Ganguly, and Gautam Gambhir among many others have all actively tried their hands in Politics. Reports from the past few weeks suggested that Ganguly and Gambhir’s former teammate Yuvraj Singh is in line to continue the lineage. It was said that the ruling party (BJP) was willing to offer him a ticket.

How did rumors circulate about Yuvraj’s participation in the Union Elections?

This wave of rumors was lit up after Yuvraj met with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Their meeting caused a lot of stir on social media as fans and political experts started claiming that the BJP would offer Yuvraj, a chance to run for the Union elections from the Gurdaspur constituency.

It’s the same seat from which Sunny Deol won by 5,58,719 votes during the previous elections 5 years ago in 2019. BJP’s move was very smart as Deol has an incredible fan base in the country and the ruling party was reportedly aiming to do something similar. Allowing Yuvraj Singh to contest the elections would have been huge as the 42-year-old has an equally strong fan base.

Yuvi is a national icon and a living legend of Indian cricket. An all-rounder like him was never seen before and will never be seen again. Not many Indian all-rounders have had as much impact as him, especially when it comes to performing at the big stages.

No one can forget his antics during the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa. From smacking 6 sixes in an over to vice-captaining an in-experienced Indian side along with MS Dhoni towards their first major ICC trophy since 1983.

Then 3 years after the T20 WC triumph, Yuvraj Singh played the most crucial role behind India’s charge towards their first ICC 50-over World Cup trophy in 28 years. With 15 wickets and 362 runs from 9 WC matches, Yuvraj had also walked away with the Man of the Tournament award but he was later diagnosed with Cancer.

Thankfully he got safe and returned to the cricket field but his comeback wasn’t as magical. Nonetheless, with 11, 778 runs across formats, Yuvi will forever remain a legend of the game.

Yuvraj Singh clarifies the truth about Election rumors

Yuvraj Singh took to X yesterday and clarified that all reports about his Election participation are false. He claimed that he is determined to serve the needy through his foundation “Youwecan” and that he doesn’t need to be a Politician to support and help people.

“Contrary to media reports, I’m not contesting elections from Gurdaspur. My passion lies in supporting and helping people in various capacities, and I will continue to do so through my foundation @YOUWECAN. Let’s continue making a difference together to the best of our abilities.” – Yuvraj wrote on X.
