Zimbabwe Coach Lalchand Rajput Contracts Covid-19 Before The Sri Lanka Tour

The head coach of the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team, Lalchand Rajput has been tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Sri Lanka tour and he will not be with the team for the first two one-day internationals in Sri Lanka, an official asserted on Monday.

The Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka 2022 is scheduled to begin from January 16 with a One Day Internationals game at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in the central city of Kandy. The second One Day Internationals will be played on January 18 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy and the third One Day Internationals will be played on January 21 at the same venue.

There Will Be A 10-day Quarantine Period Which Means Lalchand Rajput Will Miss The First Two Matches – Arjuna de Silva

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s top sports doctor Arjuna de Silva has revealed that the Zimbabwe head coach Lalchand Rajput was asymptomatic, but was placed under observation at a hospital before being isolated at a hotel. He also revealed that the head coach will miss the first couple of games against Sri Lanka as he will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine.

We are doing some routine tests and he will be able to go back to a hotel, There will be a 10-day quarantine period which means he will miss the first two matches.”Arjuna de Silva told AFP. “

Sri Lanka’s sports doctor Arjuna de Silva further added that other members of the Zimbabwe squad were not tested positive for Covid-19 and they are allowed to have the training and practice sessions.

The Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka 2022 only consists of the One Day International games. There were plans to stage the three-match T20I series between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka as well. However, the plans to stage the T20I series were shelved because of Sri Lanka’s upcoming tour of Australia which will begin from February 11 in Sydney. Also, the tour only consists of five T20I games.
