Rajasthan Royals will always be remembered for their emphatic title glory against Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. Under the astute leadership of Shane Warne, Rajasthan Royals did the unthinkable to get hold of the IPL trophy.

But ever since then, there hasn’t been any sign of progress from the Rajasthan brigade. The team comprises of pretty good players and they are easily capable of competing for the championship. But they lacked the killer instinct to do so. They have been in the IPL final only once in 2008.

However, they would be looking forward to making up for the lost opportunities in the upcoming tournament.

We at Cricket Addictor will take a look at the three players whom Mumbai Indians should buy in the IPL 2020 auctions:

The defending champions made up their mind to part ways with dashing opener, Evin Lewis. He featured for Mumbai in his debut season in IPL 2018 edition where he scored 382 runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.38. His highest score of 65 came against Royal Challengers Bangalore and could score only 2 half-centuries to his name.

In the following season, he was not given much chances to prove himself. He played just 3 games and could score just 48 runs. He spent more time in warming the bench rather than opening the batting for the team. He was bought in the auction for INR 3.8 Cr in 2018.

There was stiff competition in the team as he himself and Quinton de Kock competed for the same spot. However, Quinton de Kock’s consistency at the top forced Lewis to stay out of the playing XI. Now that he has been released by Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity to rope him for the upcoming season.

2. Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma was expected to play a key part in the upcoming season for Chennai Super Kings. However, the yellow army has decided to release him. If Rajasthan Royals can pull off a deal to bring Mohit Sharma in their side, it would be an absolute steal. He is someone who can bring a lot of variety in the bowling attack.

He is a productive new ball bowler who is capable of providing early breakthroughs for the team. His good delivery stride and his potential to bowl a tight line and length impressed everyone. Not to forget the fact that he had a fantastic stint with CSK. He won the Purple Cap in the 2014 edition for being the leading wicket-taker. Following his repeated success in the 2013 and 2014 seasons in the world premiere tournament, he earned a maiden call-up to the Indian team.

During the IPL Player Auction 2016, he was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for INR 6.5 crore and played for them in three consecutive seasons. He was quite impressive in the initial two seasons as he took 26 wickets (13 wickets each). In the following season, his performance dropped slightly as he managed just 7 wickets in 9 games.

Ahead of IPL 2019, the CSK army once again purchased his services by spending INR 5 crore. He will surely be in radar and the big clubs are watching to recruit him.

3. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla has been plying his trade for Kolkata Knight Riders since 2011. However, the franchise has decided to release him now. Rajasthan Royals will be looking forward to splashing the cash to sign him.

The experienced leg-spinner was quite productive for the Knight Riders in their two IPL titles. He will be forever remembered by KKR fans for hitting the winning runs in IPL 2014 against Kings XI Punjab. His brilliant control with the ball and smart use of the conditions made him a key weapon of KKR attack.

He was retained at a price of Rs. 4.32 crore for the 2019 IPL. However, he didn’t have much success with the ball. He could pick only 10 wickets in 13 games he had played for the franchise. Overall, he has taken 150 wickets in the IPL at an impressive average of 27.14.
