T20 format is a revolution that has had its impact on other versions of the game significantly, especially for the batsmen. With the advent and growth of the shortest format of the game, Test and ODIs have struggled to maintain its popularity. The spectators always go beserk when one team demolishes the other through a flurry of boundaries or frequently sending the ball over the fence.

And T20 is a version where the batsmen hardly take any time before unleashing their powerful shots. And when certain batters get into the groove, it can be very challenging for any bowler to stop them from finding the fence at will. With that, a few batsmen have their individual scores in T20I more than what they boast of in One-day international cricket.

We take a look at five batsmen whose scores in T20I are more than their ODI’s:

Morne Van Wyk: T20Is – 114*, ODIs – 82

Morne Van Wyk is a promising wicketkeeper-batsman, who played for South Africa between 2003 and 2015 in limited-overs cricket. Van Wyk was part of South Africa’s 2011 World Cup that began very well before their campaign ended heartbreakingly in the quarter-finals. He is one of the few batsmen, who has a T20I century to his name.

Despite playing 17 ODIs and only eight T20Is, the 41-year old has a higher score in the latter. His best innings of 82 in 50-over cricket came against India in 2007. Morne Van Wyk slammed an unbeaten 114 against West Indies in 2015 in Durban. The Bloemfontein-born does not remain in the international reckoning anymore but continues to play in the domestic circuit.

Colin Munro: T20Is – 109*, ODIs – 87

As far as T20Is go, very few come close to Colin Munro’s reputation amongst the most destructive batsmen. The southpaw’s three centuries in the shortest format is the second-most by any player. Munro operates at a strike rate of 156.44 in T20 internationals.

Nevertheless, he has not been able to replicate the form in ODIs. Across 57 ODIs, the 33-year old has only eight fifty-plus scores at 24.92. The highest score of 87 came against Bangladesh way back in 2016 in Christchurch.

Glenn Maxwell: 145 – T20Is, 102 – ODIs:

Glenn Maxwell is undeniably the modern-day definition of innovative batting and a T20 powerhouse. Like Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell also boasts of three T20I centuries with a high score of an unbeaten 145. The stunning knock of 145 came against Sri Lanka off 65 balls in 2016 while opening the innings that catapulted Australia to 263 that day.

Nevertheless, the Victorian is also always known for his reckless approach. It is part of the reason why the 32-year old has not found much success in 50-over cricket despite large calibre. In 110 ODIs, Maxwell has only 2332 runs at 32.32 with a solitary hundred that came back in the 2015 World Cup. However, he operates at a strike rate of 123.37.

Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai is also one of the batsmen, who has a higher T20I score than in ODIs. Like Glenn Maxwell, Hazratullah Zazai has tasted enormous success in T20Is but has not been able to translate the same in ODIs. Zazai’s unbeaten 162 against Ireland in 2019 is the second-highest in the format.

The same match produced the highest T20I total of 278. In contrast, in 16 ODIs, the 22-year old has only two fifties with a high score of 67. The same also came against the Irishmen in March 2019 off 43 balls, consisting of five fours and five sixes.

Aaron Finch: T20Is – 172, ODIs – 153*

Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch is the only batsman on this list to have found success in both white-ball formats. Aaron Finch’s knock of 172 in July 2018 against Zimbabwe is the highest in T20Is. In the process, he also passed his best of 156 scored against England in 2013.

As far as ODIs go, the 33-year old opening batsman has the best score of an unbeaten 153. Finch scored those many runs against Pakistan in Sharjah in March 2019. The veteran headlined a mammoth chase of 285 in the process.
