The ICC Cricket World Cup is just a year away and all the team will be gearing up for the quadrennial event which is hailed in England and Wales. The Men in Blue will fief its start as one of the hit favourites for the tournament. They have a terrific limited overs team and their recent performances are just testimony to their success in the shorter formats. In their last ODI series against South Africa, India won by a 5-1 margin courtesy a sensational series by skipper Virat Kohli and spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

The Indian team will be full of confidence going into the World Cup. However, they will have some serious selection issues. There are several international stars who may not be part of the squad next year.

Without wasting any time let us have a look at 5 possible players who might not make a cut in the 2019 World Cup

Ravindra Jadeja

The left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been quite ordinary in the limited overs format. Even during the Indian Premier League, he was quite ordinary and failed to bag the required wickets which would have given him a lift to represent India again in the limited overs format. His style of bowling has been picked by all and sundry and has been left toothless in the last few months.

His last big assignment was the ICC Champions Trophy was he fared pretty poorly. Jadeja has been pretty inefficient with the bat too and hence doesn’t stand a chance to get picked in the World Cup squad at least as of now.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Despite being the highest ranked Indian bowlers in the longest format of the game, Ashwin and Jadeja have found themselves out of the national team in the limited overs format for quite some time now. The offie has leaked runs and hasn’t quite bowled the attacking lines which have prevented him from taking the much-needed wickets. His wicket-taking abilities have taken a serious battering and hence the top class duo has been replaced by Kuldeep and Chahal.

However, there is no denying the fact that Ashwin is a champion bowler. There is still a year left for the World Cup and one can expect him to make a return. However, given the performances of the current spin duo, the chances are pretty bleak.

Shreyas  Iyer

The young middle-order batsman has been part of the Indian limited overs squad for the last few months. He has represented India in the highest level and has looked impressive. However, his lack of experience might prove to be his downfall in England. Conditions in England are not always easy and the youngster might be challenged.

The Men in Blue have some experienced campaigner in their ranks and they might prefer to pick an experienced guy in his place. Iyer has been impressive but he might not be picked for the World Cup next year.

Mohammed Shami

India’s Mohammed Shami appeals successfully for the wicket of England’s Jos Buttler during the fourth One Day International at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The team India speedster has been in the limelight for off-field issues. His wife Hasin Jahan has levelled several charges against him. However, none of the charges has been proved against Shami. In the situation of turmoil, Shami was quite ordinary in the Indian Premier League. He was smashed all around the park by the batsmen and found it very difficult to pitch the ball in the right areas.

Shami was the 2nd most successful Indian bowler in the 2015 World Cup with 17 wickets. Shami has been a terrific performer for India over the years. However, his limited-overs numbers in the recent past haven’t been great. Hence he might be omitted for the World Cup squad next year.

Suresh Raina

The veteran left-handed batsman has been a superb batsman for India over the years. He had a terrific 2015 World Cup where he scored 284 runs at an impressive average of 56. However, Raina hasn’t been un the limited overs radar for quite some time now. He recently made a return to the national side during the T20I series against South Africa.

The southpaw last played for India way back in October 2015 and doesn’t seem to be in the selection radar. Given the attacking middle-order options for Kohli, Raina might well be omitted from the squad.
