Abhimanyu Mithun To Be Questioned Over KPL Fixing

Former Team India international Abhimanyu Mithun in the latest cricketer to come under the spotlight in relation to the spot-fixing scandal in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). Central Crime Branch (CCB) has summoned the veteran pacer to quiz him over the scandal which has rocked the tournament. Notably, Mithun is captain of the Shivamogga Lions team in KPL.

Previously, the CCB has arrested eight people since July in connection with the KPL betting scandal, including Ali Asfak Thara, the owner of Belagavi Panthers. However, this is the first time an international cricketer has been called over the fixing scandals in the KPL. As Mithun has represented the Indian cricket team in both Tests and ODIs, CCB has kept the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the loop. Abhimanyu Mithun represented India in four Tests, and five ODIs.

Abhimanyu Mithun summoned by CCB

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandip Patil confirmed the news and stated that they have asked Mithun to appear before the CCB. He also revealed that they have prepared some questions for the illustrious cricketers pertaining to his participation in the last season of KPL.

“Yes, we have directed Mithun to appear before the CCB for questioning,” Patil said. “We have prepared some questions for Mithun about his game during the last KPL season,” he added.

So far, Abhimanyu Mithun has represented three franchises in the KPL. He played for Malnad Gladiators in the initial years before shifting base to Bijapur Bills. Mithun joined Shivamogga Lions ahead of the last season. Currently, Mithun is plying his trade for Karnataka in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Surat. Karnataka will play Haryana in the first semifinal. The cricketer, however, was not available for any comments.
