Riding on Steve Smith’s century, Australia posted a challenging total of 286 for 9 in the ongoing third and final ODI against India in Bengaluru. After Australia lost both their in-form openers – David Warner and Aaron Finch – for just 46 runs on the board, Steve Smith stitched together a 127-run third-wicket stand with Marnus Labuschagne, who posted his first ODI half-century with 54 from 64 balls.
Smith was partially responsible for Finch’s departure as his poor decision led to the Australia skipper’s run-out. However, the right-handed batsman made amends for it by scoring his ninth ODI century and first since January 2017. The century-plus stand between him and Labuschagne came to an end when Virat Kohli took a super diving catch at cover.
Smith and Alex Carey then shared a 58-run stand before the wicketkeeper was caught at deep cover for 35 from 36 and that dismissal ended the visitors’ momentum. Even a well-settled Smith could not get going as he managed to score just 36 from 21 balls in the final 10 overs. On the other hand, his teammates were even worse as they contributed just 22 from 39 balls in the same period.
For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he took four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets while Kuldeep Yadav and Navdeep Saini picked one each. Jasprit Bumrah bowled well but could not get any wicket as he conceded just 38 off his ten overs.
Alyssa Healy trolls Mitchell Starc:
Meanwhile, Australia women cricket team’s star Alyssa Healy hilariously trolled her husband and Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc after his poor batting show in the ongoing game. Australia promoted the pacer at number five in hope that the pinch hitter could hit some big shots. However, the move failed to pay off as Mitchell Starc departed for a third-ball duck when he was caught at cow corner. And Alyssa Healy could not help but come up with a hilarious reaction by posting a facepalm emoji.
