Andre Russell Believes T10 Format Can Help Cricket Reach Olympics

The game of cricket entered into the age of 10-over format (T10 League) to check the nerves of the fans, who love to watch quick cricket. The new invention in the game saw massive success in the first season and all set to start their second edition as well. Meanwhile, the hard-hitter of the ball Andre Russell believes T10 format can help take cricket to Olympics.

Once there used to be 60 overs for a side then it was cut down to 50 overs by the officials. And then, to change the taste of the modern youth, they turned it to 20 overs a side. Now, the emergence of T10 cricket took place, which is being loved by the fans.

The flamboyant West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, who has enjoyed exceptional success in the T20 format, believes T10 format could be the way forward to take cricket to the Olympics.

“It would be brilliant for cricket to become an Olympic sport and I know all players would love the opportunity of representing their country at an Olympic event,” said Russell.

Further, he added saying that it will also help the players to enhance their skills in the game of cricket. He believes that batsmen will always be going after the bowlers right from the start while the bowlers and fielders will be on their toes throughout the game.

“The T10 format is obviously shorter than T20 and batsmen have very less time to get themselves in. You have to really attack and go after the bowling from ball one. As a bowler and a fielding team, you have to really be on your game and plan well as you know the batsmen are looking to take you down every delivery,” said the Jamaican-born star.

Russell will be part of Northern Warriors in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10, the third season of which will take place in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates between November 14 and 24.
