As expected, Glenn Maxwell once again placed in the chart of costliest buys in IPL 2020 Auction. However, the real surprise came when his former franchises went after him in the bidding war. Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab engage in fierce bidding for Australian Glenn Maxwell, which ended when Delhi owners backed off.

Glenn Maxwell, who didn’t feature in last year’s IPL, has a decent record in the league. In the 2018 season, he scored 310 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 173. His best year so far has been with Punjab in 2014, when he single-handedly took them to the final.

Glenn Maxwell can bat anywhere – Anil Kumble

Speaking of the same, Kings XI Punjab head coach Anil Kumble has revealed the reason why the franchise was ready to go big for Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell at the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. He stated that the addition of Glenn Maxwell will do a world of good for the team.

He believes Glenn Maxwell can be the floater for the team with his ability to bat at any position. Anil Kumble further added that Maxwell will give a bowling option for KL Rahul and a gun fielder as well. Kings XI Punjab have a problem with its middle-order, something which Glenn Maxwell can sort out, as per Anil Kumble.

“We have done well because we had almost 50% getting into the auction and by far we have gotten what we wanted. This is a good platform for Glenn Maxwell with the T20 World Cup around the corner to come here and we know the quality he brings, not just as a batsman but as a fielder and a bowling option and he can bat anywhere in the middle order too,” Kumble said.

”So that’s the advantage and we needed a power hitter and we felt Maxwell was the right person to fill that gap,” Anil Kumble told the host broadcasters after the auction.

Maxwell had taken a break from cricket to deal with mental health issues earlier this year but has now returned to the cricket field and is currently taking part in the Big Bash League (BBL). However, by the time, IPL 2020 gets underway, he will be raring to go for his side.
