Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram lavished rich on Australian skipper Pat Cummins for his leadership skills in the ongoing Ashes 2023. He said that the pacer has proved the concept of ‘bowlers cannot be good captains, wrong.

Pat Cummins’ staggering captaincy even saw him lifting the ICC World Test Championship title after they defeated India. The pacer bowler has done a terrific job in the ongoing Ashes 2023 as well as under him the team has looked threatening and are favourites to win the series.

Wasim Akram hailed Pat Cummins as a great leader both off and on the field and said that he’s instilling positivity in the team as well. Speaking to Harald Sun, he said:

“Pat Cummins has proved that wrong … that particular concept that bowlers cannot be good captains. I think Pat is doing a phenomenal job. I worked with him about six or seven years ago in the IPL for a couple of years.

He is a great leader on and off the field, a humble human and is liked by the team. He is one of those guys who always has a smile on his face and he has the positivity which he is passing on to the team as a leader.”

Ashes 2023: “I reckon bowlers can be better captains because..,” explains Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram further went on to say that he feels bowlers can be better captains than batters because they can control bowlers well. Weighing on his argument, he elaborated:

“I reckon bowlers can be better captains because they know how to handle their bowlers. A batting captain might give you an extra over for your spell and you might be gone for the whole day but as a bowler I might know this bowler is good enough to bowl two four over spells not a spell of six overs.”

Pat Cummins will have to play a crucial role if Australia needs to fancy their chances of winning the third game. England needs 224 runs whereas the visitors are 10 wickets away from sealing the series.
