Ashish Nehra, the former Indian fast bowler, believes that the  Indian Premier League-bound players, who will get to participate in the Caribbean Premier League [CPL] will hold an advantage over the rest of the players.

The latest edition of the Caribbean Premier League is all set to kick off from August 18 and Nehra reckoned that players like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Rashid Khan, Imran Tahir, Kieron Pollard and many others who will be representing their franchises in the competition will be better suited to play T20 cricket as compared to those who haven’t played any competitive cricket in the past six months.

“I would like to say, whichever player plays CPL, there is no guarantee that their performance will be replicated in the IPL, but they will definitely have an edge over the other players. If you reach UAE after playing for a month, it will definitely make a difference, be it Kieron Pollard or Imran Tahir or Rashid Khan,” Ashish Nehra said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.

Ashish Nehra also weighed in on the expectations from South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who will be turning out for the Chennai Super Kings [CSK] in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. Tahir is the only South African cricketer who will participate in the CPL and Nehra, his former teammate at CSK feels that paying in the Caribbean league ahead of the IPL will hold the vile leg-spinner in good stead.

“Even today when Imran Tahir takes a wicket, he celebrates like an 18 to 20-year-old player. He is a dedicated player. When we talk about a certain age, when you get to play more matches and get more practice at that age, it is always better. It will be a really good thing for Imran Tahir to play the IPL after playing in the CPL,” Ashish Nehra reckoned.

The 13th edition of the IPL will kickstart from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.<
