The Sydney Cricket Ground sets the scene for the opening match of Australia’s summer, which could be an unforgettable one. Australia and India will kickstart their battle in the first of the three ODIs on Friday followed by three T20Is and the much-awaited four-match Test series. It would be the first time that the Indian cricket team plays since February this year.

The Indian team will face quite a few questions ahead of the first ODI, mainly due to the absence of Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma’s absence should mean that KL Rahul opens with Shikhar Dhawan and the tourists could go for one of the relatively inexperienced players down the order. Virat Kohli will undoubtedly remain the focus, considering he wasn’t in good nick before the COVID-19-enforced break and it also remains to be seen whether they opt for both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the spin-bowling unit.

On the other hand, Australia has a relatively settled line-up and would be high on confidence following their series victory in England. With Steve Smith and David Warner back in the side along with the former announcing to be in good nick, it could be ominous signs for the opposition. While Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable IPL season, one should not forget he earned the man of the series performance in England while Marcus Stoinis’ excellent run in IPL 2020 is also an encouraging sign. The hosts’ bowling attack also looks as settled.
