With only few ODI games left in the bank, the skipper of Indian Cricket Team Virat Kohli believes that this would be the best chance for the fast bowlers to press their case for the ICC World Cup 2019.

Virat Kohli has called on the pace bowlers in the squad to impress national selectors for the upcoming World Cup selection during the 13 One-Day Internationals that are left before the quadrennial event later this year.

Jasprit Bumrah- Bhuvneshwar Kumar pair confirmed:

Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested for the ODIs in Australia and New Zealand after playing in all four Test matches against Australia, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are more or less confirmed to be on the flight to the UK in May.

Kohli said he is pleased with the current team’s combination and there isn’t too much room for tinkering with this squad in the build-up to the ODI World Cup in England starting May 30. The only slots left in the kitty are the two bowling options to pair with Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah.

“The fact we have not many games left before the World Cup and hence we want to play the side that more or less will feature in the World Cup. The exceptional case of Jasprit Bumrah being rested is pure because of the workload in the Test series. But apart from that I don’t think combination-wise we are going to look to tinker too much,” he said.

“A couple of spots which might need rectification will be looked at but apart from that the idea is to make that combination and that team play together for the whole period left before the World Cup,” said Kohli. What’s exciting is that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is coming back into the scenario. He’s been working hard during the Tests. Khaleel Ahmed has done well when given the opportunities.”

Mohammad Shami and Siraj do have chances:

In the previous edition of ICC World Cup 2019, Mohammad Shami has done brilliantly to help India outsmart the oppositions. Virat Kohli believes Shami has the chance to impress and also asks Mohammad Siraj to deliver.

“Mohammed Shami has the skill to provide you breakthroughs with the new ball. So he has the chance to establish himself as the member of the pace quartet or how many ever will go to the World Cup. Kohli said even Mohammed Siraj, who has come in for Bumrah, has a chance to get the selectors thinking,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the Indian bowlers. Most probably, the youngsters would like to deliver, as there is a chance to take the flight to England for ICC World Cup 2019.
