Australian Cricket team have called in Perth Scorchers batsman Ashton Turner as cover for an ill Mitchell Marsh ahead of the first Gillette ODI against Indian National Cricket team at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Meanwhile, Marsh is suffering from gastritis and has spent the past two days in the hospital.

Head coach Justin Langer has confirmed Mitchell Marsh’s unavailability for the opening encounter on January 12 (Saturday). He also noted that call for the final two games will be taken after monitoring his progress. Langer said the uncapped Turner’s ability to finish off an innings with the bat and his ability to create pressure with his lightning running between the wickets gave him the nod.

I remember when Mike Hussey came into Australian cricket, the thing that almost got him a shot in the one-day side was his running between his wickets,” Langer said.

That might sound like the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard but you watch Ashton Turner, the way he runs between wickets is unbelievable. He’s such a great athlete, it puts so much pressure (on the opposition). He can finish the innings off well, an elite athlete in the field and he’s also a captain,” he added.

Ashton Turner, who represents Western Australia played a key role for the Perth Scorchers in Wednesday night’s KFC BBL match against the Melbourne Stars. He has joined the ODI side earlier today in Sydney ahead of the first ODI fixture. He has been in good form in the BBL and will look to continue his form in the international circuit.
