Team India, who is yet to win a Test series in Australia, will look to set the goal right away when they face Australia in the first of the four-match Test series at Adelaide from December 6.

Meanwhile, India will have their best opportunity to script history against a weak Aussie team who will be without Steven Smith and David Warner due to bans for their role in the ball-tampering scandal.

Although India have struggled in the overseas conditions earlier this year, experts have tipped them as the favourites in the upcoming series. India have a balanced unit with a world-class bowling attack that puts them ahead in the clash of the titans.

On the other hand, Australia’s main threat is their first-choice pace attack of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins. With the trio fit and finally reunited, the team will look to them to make early inroads into the opposition line-up. The canny Nathan Lyon will be backing them up. The spinner, after all, does have a good record against Kohli.

Weather Forecast

Summers are warm in Adelaide, but not as balmy as everyone here talks them up to be. But Thursday is likely to witness a new high in the mercury levels with the highest temperatures set to touch 39 degrees.

The weather will have an impact for sure on the pitch, which on Wednesday looked brown with a significant green tinge. The stadium has in recent years hosted day-night Tests, so daytime conditions will be a new experience for the home bowlers.

Both India and Australia will aim to take early control of the game to set the tone for the rest of the match.
