Well, it was a great day at the office for Jasprit Bumrah. Perhaps, one of those days, which will be remembered for his lifetime to cherish. The classy fast bowler once again showed his charisma to the cricketing world by bowing an incredible spell at MCG. He finished with a stunning 6-wicket-haul to break a 39-year-old record of most wickets by a bowler in the debut year.

Jasprit Bumrah surpassed Dileep Doshi to register most wickets for India in his debut year in Test cricket with 45 wickets and still left with one inning in his account. With six wickets in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne against Australia, Bumrah set up the new record in Indian cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah is yet to bowl in second innings:

Earlier, Dileep Doshi in 1979 had taken 40 wickets in his debut Test year, which was a record until Bumrah broke through in 2018. Venkatesh Prasad is on third behind Doshi with 37 in 1996. Narendra Hirwani with 36 wickets in 1988 and Sreesanth with 35 in 2006 complete the top five.

It was an impressive show from Jasprit Bumrah to dismantle Australian lineup for just 151 runs on the board. The right-handed fast bowler rattled the defence of Australians with ease to register his best bowling figures in an innings.

Initially, he got rid of Marcus Harris with a bouncer trap when Ishant Sharma took a dolly at fine leg. It was followed by a beautiful Slower delivery to Shaun Marsh, who was trapped plumb in front of the wicket.

Later, he produced an incredible delivery to give a jog for wooden furniture behind Travis Head. Then, it was Australian skipper Tim Paine, who nicked Jasprit Bumrah to Rishabh Pant for being his 4th victim.

Following it up, he bundled out the Australian tail by sending Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood in quick succession to register a six-wicket haul to his name on the MCG honour board
