Well began is half job done. Mayank Agarwal had an ideal start to his Test career as he scored a fine fifty on his Test debut. Agarwal became the 295th player for the Indian team in the red ball version. In fact, the right-hander played with confidence as he brought his best to the table. Agarwal got off to a confident start when he was able to hit the ground running.
However, Agarwal first boundary came off an edge when he went for a wide off-stump delivery. Furthermore, he took two blows from Pat Cummins on his body. Though, Agarwal determination to keep fighting it out never faltered.

Well played young man.
The right-hander has thus far scored 52 runs in which he has scored half-a-dozen fours. The Karnataka batsman looked in control as he batted at the top of his game. The right-hander also became the second Indian batsman on debut to score 50+ on Australian soil.
Agarwal had scored a truckload of runs while playing in the Ranji Trophy. Furthermore, he has been a consistent performer for the India A side. In fact, Mayank Agarwal has been waiting in the wings for a long time.

The talisman batsman finally got his opportunity as KL Rahul and Murali Vijay could not deliver the goods for the team. However, Agarwal has been able to grab his chance with both hands. In fact, Agarwal will like to carry forward the impetus and make a big score in his maiden appearance in Indian whites.
On the other hand, Agarwal has good support from Cheteshwar Pujara – who is batting at unbeaten 18. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins has been the pick of the Australian bowlers as the pacer has asked the right questions from the Indian batters. Cummins was able to get rid off Hanuma Vihari with a fine bouncer and the right-hander could not get away from the line of the ball.
Here is how Twitter praised Mayank Agarwal’s fifty:

Retaining that hunger, waiting patiently after all those runs that he scored in domestic cricket to score a fine half century on debut, @mayankcricket is already a role model to look up to for youngsters. Well done ? #BoxingDay #AusvInd

Not the greatest list of names to compete with but this knock by Agarwal is now the highest by an Indian batsman making his debut in Australia. #AUSvIND #BoxingDayTest

Fifty on debut for Mayank Agarwal with a nonchalant straight drive past Lyon. He’s waited long for this chance and is making the most of it. #AUSvIND

Highlight of Mayank Agarwal's innings: how he's played Lyon. Clearly coming forward or going back wasn't working for the Indian batsmen, so he's used his feet to run down to Lyon.

50 on debut and he isn’t finished yet!! Well played Mayank Agarwal. Good to see him come down the track and use footwork against Lyon. Something Sunil Gavaskar said on my show in @IndiaToday
