The Bangladesh women’s team continued their winning run in the 13th South Asian games, defeating Maldives by a whopping 249 runs at Pokhara. With their third consecutive win of the tournament, Bangladesh also sealed their place in the final which will take place on Sunday. Before the latest win, they had defeated Sri Lanka and Nepal by seven and ten wickets respectively.
And on Thursday, they further proved their title credentials by blowing away Maldives. After scoring a mammoth 255 for 2 in the allotted 20 overs, Bangladesh bowled out their opponents for an unbelievable six. Shamma Ali was the top-scorer for Maldives after scoring two while only two others could open their accounts with both scoring one run each.
Interestingly, Maldives batted for 12.1 overs to score their six runs. For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni and Salma Khatun picked up three wickets apiece. Moni bowled three maiden overs and conceded only one in the other to finish with impressive figures of 1 for 3.
Earlier in the game, Nigar Sultana and Fargana Hoque scored centuries to take their team to the huge total. Bangladesh were off to a poor start as their openers departed for just 19 runs on the board. Shamima Sultana was run out for 5 while Sanjida Islam was boweld by Shamma Ali for seven. But from that point onward, it was just a one-way traffic as Sultana and Hoque took the Maldives bowlers to the cleaners.
Sultana remained unbeaten on 113 off 65 balls while Hoque scored 110 off 53 balls. The two joined hands to hit 34 fours and three sixes.
