The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to suspend Rinku Singh for three months starting from June 1 for violating BCCI rules. Notably, Rinku represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

The first-class cricketer from Uttar Pradesh, Rinku Singh invited troubles after playing in the Abu Dhabi T20 League. This is the second instance in recent time after Irfan Pathan violated BCCI’s rules by drafting his name for the auctions of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). However, he didn’t attract any buyers and remained unsold in the auctions.

The cricketer from Uttar Pradesh made his first-class debut against Punjab in November 2016. He last played for his state earlier this year against Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Moreover, Rinku Singh also represented Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2019; however, had a forgettable tournament. The left-handed batsman managed to score only 37 runs from five games.

However, his participation in the Abu Dhabi T20 League created a stir in the domestic circuit. As per BCCI’s rule, only those players, who have retired from all forms of cricket, can play in foreign leagues. Rinku Singh didn’t seek any permission from the BCCI before taking part in the T20 league hence directly violating the BCCI rules and regulations.

As a result, BCCI have suspended Rinku Singh for three months with immediate effect starting from June 1. Besides, the apex body have also removed him from current India A squad set to play a multi-day game against Sri Lanka A beginning May 31, 2019.

In the statement released by BCCI, they pointed out that they will not tolerate this kind of violations and will take strict actions in the near future.
