Ben Stokes Apologises For Swearing At South Africa Fan

England star Ben Stokes has issued an apology after swearing at a spectator on day one of the ongoing fourth Test against South Africa on Friday. The allrounder was filmed using expletives in a reaction to a comment from the crowd, as he was departing the field following his dismissal.

Ben Stokes was out for just two, his lowest score in an otherwise fine series for him with both bat and ball. He had been caught in the slips by Rassie van der Dussen as England fell to 157 for 4 on day one in Johannesburg. And as Ben Stokes was about to climb the stairs, he turned toward the crowd and launched a x-rated rant.

He was caught on camera calling a cricket fan a ‘f***ing four-eyed c***’ as he made his way to the dressing room in Johannesburg. “Say it to me outside the ground you f***ing four-eyed c***,” he said while storming into the dressing room.

And just a few hours after the incident, he took to Twitter to post a statement where he apologised for the outburst.

“I wish to apologise for my language that was heard on the live broadcast today after my dismissal. As I was leaving the playing area, I was subjected to repeated abuse form the crowd,” said Ben Stokes in the statement.

“I admit that my reaction was unprofessional, and I sincerely apologise for the language I used, especially to the many young fans watching the live telecast around the world.

“Throughout the Tests so far, the support from both sets of fans (England and South Africa) has been brilliant. One incident will not ruin such a competitive series, which we are determined to win,” he added.

The incident comes after Jos Buttler was overheard calling South African bowler Vernon Philander a ‘f***ing k***head’ by the stump mic in the second Test of the series. Buttler was later fined 15 percent of his match fee and given one demerit point before he issued an apology for his behaviour.
