Former Australian bowler Brett Lee has named India and Australia as the two teams that have impressed him the most, ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. The global event will be held in Australia, beginning from Friday, with the Indian Women’s team and the hosts set to play in the inaugural fixture of the World Cup.

Lee, a former great of men’s cricket, wrote in his blog on ICC’s official website, about the two aforementioned teams. He also added his perspective about the T20 World Cup, and what such a big tournament means for women’s cricket.

In his opinion, the Women’s T20 World Cup has the potential to elevate the game to another level altogether.

Brett Lee opens up about the Women’s T20 World Cup, assesses India’s chances at the tournament:

The showpiece event that is set to feature ten cricketing nations from across the globe has enormous potential when it comes to the Women’s cricket, as per Lee.

He said, “Women’s cricket could reach the next level in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and I’m incredibly proud that Australia will play host to this historic tournament.”

“The first game at the Sydney Showground between Australia and India could really set a tone for the tournament, with a match-up between two of the most impressive teams in the game,” he continued.

The legendary Australian pacer also assessed team India’s chances at the global event.

Lee said, “With Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma in their batting unit, we’ll also need to keep a close eye on India, a side who are set to add a fourth dimension to this tournament.”

He further added, “Whether it’s at the MCG or the venues around Australia, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 is a chance to be a part of history, creating memories which will stay with people for generations.”

Australia and India will kick-off the Women’s T20 World Cup on 21st February, at the Spotless Stadium, in Sydney, with five other stadiums across Perth, Canberra and Melbourne also among the host cities.
