The Bushfire Cricket Bash 2020 was a great success by all means. The charity game saw Ponting XI beat the Gilchrist XI by 1 run. The fund-raiser game was played to raise funds for the victims of Australia’s widespread bushfires. It featured a plethora of legends including Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, and many more.

Apart from the funds raised from the game, Cricket Australia (CA) will also donate AUD 2 million for the victims. Adam Gilchrist and Ponting led the sides in the game that was played in Melbourne. Tendulkar became the highlight as he came into bat during the innings break and entertained the spectators.

Bushfire Cricket Bash Raises Over $7.7 Million:

CA confirmed on Sunday that the Bushfire game raised a total of US $7.7 million for the bushfire victims. Ponting XI ended their 10 overs on 104 for 5 on the board. Former West Indies captain Brian Lara top entertained the spectators with 30 runs off 11 balls. His knock included 3 boundaries and two sixes.

Moreover, Ponting himself contributed with 26 runs while Matthew Hayden and Luke Hodge made 16 and 11 runs respectively. Courtney Walsh, Yuvraj Singh and ex-Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds picked up a wicket each for Gilchrist XI.

Chasing the target, Shane Watson and Adam Gilchrist gave a solid start to the Gilchrist XI and stitched a 49-run partnership for the first wicket. But, Brett Lee and Luke Hodge ran through their batting line-up, picking up three wickets in quick succession.

Brad Hodge was dismissed for a duck while Yuvraj managed just two off six balls. Andrew Symonds tried his best with 29 off 13 balls but it wasn’t enough to get his team over the finish line in a thrilling contest.
