Mohammed Shami has been one of India’s spearheads in the fast bowling department in the past 2-3 years. Since the start of January 2016, no Indian fast bowler has taken more wickets than Mohammad Shami- 133 wickets in 37 Tests at an average of 24.25 with three five-wicket-hauls. But apart from his immaculte wicket-taking spree, it is Shami’s fitness that has impressed one and all.

Shami has been a constant menace for the opposition batsman but who is that one particular batsman in the Indian team that seams to play the Bengal fast bowler pretty well?

The onslaught of coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown has put cricket on the backburner and cricketers are currently using this time to engage in Instagram Live sessions. Mohammed Shami Shami, in a recent live session with Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary revealed that Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian No.3 in Test cricket and a backbone of the No.1 Test side in the world plays him the best during net sessions.

Shami hailed Pujara for his dedication, revealing that the Saurashtra batsman hates getting dismissed during the net sessions besides asserting that bowling to someone like Pujara, a bowler gets an idea as to how much he is drifting away from off -stump.

“Cheteshwar Pujara plays me the best during net sessions, he is a very dedicated player, and he hates getting dismissed during net sessions, whenever he is batting, the bowler gets the idea about how much you are drifting away from the off stump,” Mohammed Shami revealed.

Mohammed Shami also talked about how playing and spending quality time with world class players helps a bowler to not only analyse his strengths but also his weaknesses.

“There are a lot of things that come with playing and spending quality time with another player. You not only come to know of his strengths, but also of his weaknesses. As a bowler, you need to keep working on the weak zones. There is no denying the fact that he is the best in the business, but even the best have those little flaws which you can work on. You just need to pick on one factor and focus on that,” Mohammed Shami added.

In the recent Test series against New Zealand, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers even though his numbers- 5 wickets at 36.50- does not reflect that.
