Chris Gayle is currently in India plying his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Kings XI Punjab. He has been in good form and wishes to carry that form to the upcoming ICC World Cup in England and Wales. The veteran cricketer recently in a chat hailed his skipper Ravichandran Ashwin lauding his work ethics.

Meanwhile, Ashwin too is having a good time with the ball, although the results haven’t come consistently. Ravichandran Ashwin has picked up 14 wickets so far and also has five wins from 12 games. Ashwin has been the centre of many controversies right from the start of the IPL. Right from mankading Jos Buttler to contesting umpire’s decisions, Ashwin has done all in this tournament. But Chris Gayle is in awe of Ashwin and wondered why he is not in India’s limited overs team. The Universe Boss also shared high praise on Ashwin’s leadership abilities and said that he is a passionate bowler. The 32-year-old off-spinner last represented India in an ODI in June 2017.

I don’t know what happened there (why he is not in India’s limited overs setup). He has been a phenomenal bowler for India. He is a very passionate bowler, equally passionate as captain and someone who strongly believes in his ability as well his team’s. It is very good to see that in a captain,” Gayle said.

Punjab goes down once again

Kings XI Punjab’s losing streak continues as they went down against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 45 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Batting first, Hyderabad posted 212 runs after another swashbuckling knock from David Warner. He scored 81 runs with contributions from Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey to lay a strong base. But Punjab bounced back to contain Punjab for just 212 runs.

In reply, Punjab failed to stitch a significant partnership as they lost wickets from one while KL Rahul stood tall from the other end. He finally got out in the 19th over as Punjab could only manage 167 runs, falling short by 45 runs.
