When you are batting on 60-plus in the chase of 165 with almost every ball coming out from the sweet spot of the bat, you hardly think of any danger nearing you. But, to the surprise of Colin Munro, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli brought in something incredible on the field to dismiss him. It was a dismissal, which changed the course of the game.

During the 12th over of the second innings, Munro smashed one of Shivam Dube’s deliveries to the sweeper cover region and looked to steal a double. This was when Shardul Thakur came around quickly and returned the throw to Kohli.

Kohli, who himself wasn’t anywhere near the stumps, quickly pouched the throw and in a lightning-fast manner, spun around and hit the stumps bullseye leaving Munro well short of his crease on the striker’s end.

Soon after Munro’s departure, Tom Bruce was also sent packing for a duck by Yuzvendra Chahal, which reduced New Zealand to 97/3 at the end of 12.1 overs.

Seifert and Ross Taylor then added 62 runs for the fourth wicket. But with seven required of the last over, four New Zealand batsmen were dismissed, pushing the contest into Super Over.

I thought crap I’m in a bit of trouble here – Colin Munro

Speaking of the run-out, Munro stated that he felt there was no danger for him when Thakur aimed his throw at the non-striker end. But, all of a sudden Kohli pouched the ball in the middle and hits the stumps — to caught him short of the crease.

“I just saw Shardul throw towards the wicket-keeper’s end or the bowler’s end, whichever one it was, and I saw it going over and I thought oh well it’s going to the non-danger end for me, and when I saw Kohli catch the ball and spin around, then I thought crap I’m in a bit of trouble here. And then he hit like he usually does,” Munro explained what was going through his mind in a post-match interview.

It was his second half-century in the series. On both occasions, he failed to convert his knock into a match-winning performance.

As of now, New Zealand lost all the four games in the series so far. They would look for a win in the final game at Bay Oval to avoid a whitewash and get the momentum ahead of ODI series.
