County Championship: Ravichandran Ashwin to Rejoin Worcestershire for Two Matches

Team India veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is all set to return to English County club Worcestershire for the final two County Championship matches. The veteran spinner will be an important member of the Indian side if they harbour hopes of winning the Test series in England after 11 years.

The ace off-spinner Ashwin will now return to New Road for Division one fixtures against Essex and Yorkshire in September.

Only in last season, Ashwin had bagged 20 wickets in four games – to help Pears win the promotion to the top level in the last season.

“Ashwin is world class and he loved it at Worcestershire. Conversations have been ongoing about him coming back and I’m sure he will be a great fillip for us,” Worcestershire’s official website quoted head coach Kevin Sharp as saying.

Ashwin hasn’t performed up to his standards in overseas conditions. However, when you see his Test records in home conditions it will leave you flabbergasted.

However, there is no denying the fact that Ashwin is a champion bowler. He must come to all guns blazing and execute his new deliveries to perfection.

Ashwin was the previous No. 1 Test bowler in the world which was later eclipsed by Ravindra Jadeja. Both are great spinners on home conditions.

However, their performances are not the same when it comes to overseas conditions.

Hence, Kuldeep Yadav, being the wrist spinner might be the preferred ahead of conventional finger spinners like Ashwin and Jaddu.

Ashwin is part of the visiting squad for the five-match Test series against England. He has not performed up to his standard in overseas conditions.

But, it might just be the turnaround from Ravichandran Ashwin. The whole of India is looking forward. The opening Test starts on 1^st August in Birmingham.

It will be an intense battle on our hands when the two teams lock horns against each other in the Test series.

Skipper Virat Kohli will also look to get some runs in English conditions. He failed quite miserably when India toured England the last time around. He managed to score just 134 runs in 10 innings which proved to be India’s downfall.
