The Chennai Super King (CSK) were left in a huge hole as Mumbai Indians (MI) fielder Tilak Varma took a brilliant catch to send back Dwayne Bravo as the two teams clashed at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022 on May 12.
Chennai Super Kings batted first after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on his home ground. MI made two changes as Kieron Pollard, on his birthday, was dropped for Tristan Stubbs and Hrithik Shokeen replaced M Ashwin in the XI. CSK came into the game unchanged.
Daniel Sams wrecked the CSK top order as he removed Devon Conway and Moeen Ali for ducks in the first over itself. Robin Uthappa then fell to Jasprit Bumrah leaving CSK on 6/3. Ambati Rayudu (10) and Shivam Dube (10) tried to score some runs and hit some good shots, but Riley Meredith’s pace accounted for both the batters.
Dwayne Bravo Smashed One Straight To Tilak Varma Who Takes A Good Leaping Catch
There was some respite from falling wickets as veterans Dwayne Bravo and MS Dhoni were at the crease, and the duo added 39 runs for the 7th wicket while milking the bowling for ones and twos without much risk.
However, Dwayne Bravo lost his patience as Kumar Karthikeya bowled a full toss to him. Bravo advanced down the track a bit and tried to hit the ball straight over cover. However, Tilak Varma stationed there was alert and jumped his leap perfectly to catch the ball above his head, despite the ball traveling at a good speed.
Bravo went back to the hut for 12 runs, leaving 78/7, which soon became 81/9 as MI ran through the CSK lower order with only MS Dhoni remaining to eke out some more runs.
