Former Cricket West Indies president Dave Cameron is the first name to officially emerge as a candidate for ICC chairman. Dave Cameron is realistic about his chances of becoming the next ICC chairman at a time when the name of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is doing rounds as the favourite to take up the role.

It is, however, not clear if Sourav Ganguly will announce his candidature for the post. But Cameron said that if he announces his nomination then the former India captain will get huge support from the Asian block. However, Cameron is also of the view that cricket needs someone of his acumen, business understanding and leadership ability to take up the role.

“Again, yes and I have made that point several times, if Sourav Ganguly decides to run as chairman of ICC, I don’t think, I will have a chance simply because the Asian block will support him, simply because he is an icon in the sport,” Dave Cameron told Cricket Addictor in an exclusive interview.

“However, I just don’t believe that is what exactly the sport needs. The sport needs someone with my acumen, business, leadership etc to really drive the sport. However, we need people like Ganguly to drive the sport because at the end of the day sports is about personalities, people support personalities. Anywhere Ganguly goes in the world he will be a huge draw not Dave Cameron, I am just an administrator,” he added.

Cameron served as a director of Cricket West Indies between 2002 and 2019. He has a great experience in the administrative role. He was the vice president to Julian Hunte between 2007-13 before beating the incumbent to take up the role of president in the year 2013.
