The latest verbal spat between Australia vice-captain David Warner and South African wicket-keeper Quinton De Kock has raised some question by former cricketers for imposing some strict rules on cricketers misbehaving.

The temperatures rose in the first Test between South Africa and Australia. After the on-field altercation between Mitchell Starc and Theunis De Bruyn, the heated conversations between the players reached the dressing room areas.

A CCTV footage emerged from the staircase leading to the dressing rooms at Kingsmead in Durban. It showed the Australia vice-captain and the South Africa wicketkeeper involved in a heated exchange at tea on day four of the first Test.

After an investigation by both the cricket boards and hefty fine imposed by the International Cricket Council both the players have now sorted things out.

However, the incidence has got the entire cricketing fraternity talking. Some of the former players have suggested interesting rectifications to make the game peaceful.

Former England player David Lloyd has also come up with a new idea. He has suggested to bring in the idea of a red card in the game.

He said:

“I’ve been around cricket a long time but I’ve never seen player behaviour as it is in recent times. I’m not just talking about what we saw between David Warner and Quinton de Kock in the first Test in South Africa, but in recent times.”

“I used to be on an ICC umpiring committee, and as regular readers of my blog will know, I’ve been saying ‘bring in red cards’ for two or three years now. Give players a red card for poor behaviour and get them off the field immediately – and they don’t play the next three matches. It’s the only way to resolve this.”

“I repeat. I have never, ever seen behaviour on and off the field as it is now. I keep hearing about and reading about some line that the players shouldn’t cross. Where is this line? There’s nothing in any of the laws of the game about a line.”
