The Australian team has had a hard grueling 2017-18 season while having won Ashes series 4-0 against their toughest and fiercest competitor England recently.
However, after regaining the coveted Urn, the Aussies had a horrible One-day International series at home which saw the touring party England sealing the Gillette 50-over competition by 4-1.

The Australian team has been under a transition phase for some time now especially in the limited-overs format.
However, in the Trans-Tasman Twenty20 tri-nation series, the Australians have been unbeaten under the captaincy of David Warner.
Interestingly, their regular captain Steven Smith took a break to prepare for the upcoming Test tour of South Africa.

Warner has completely transformed the T20 squad and has led his team to victory over New Zealand and England.
Warner’s leadership skills in the shortest format have been exceptional as he also led his Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to glory in 2016.
Smith on the other side has been below par while leading his men in the coloured uniform.

Australia’s current assistant coach Ricky Ponting had earlier said that it is almost impossible to lead in all the three formats. Smith on other hand has cleared the air that he wants to play in all the three formats.
Warner, who has won six out of the seven T20I’s he has led. He said that he respects Smith’s decision and his future leadership decisions depends on how Smith goes about his international career.
Warner said, “That’s obviously a question for Smithy and the selectors. It depends on how Smithy is going mentally with all three forms. He’s said that he’s happy doing all three forms and I respect that. I’m his deputy so I try and help him as much as I can so he’s in the (right) frame of mind.”
“But it’s quite a tough job. It’s not just the cricket he has to deal with, it’s everything else that comes with the game. I don’t think people see that as often and it can be quite challenging. I try and do as much as I can and make sure I’m doing everything right with the boys to make his job a lot easier,” Warner emphasized.
Smith on his part has made it clear that he wants to continue playing T20 cricket.

Smith said, “I certainly see that I’ve got a future in T20 cricket,” Smith said this week.
“Obviously, it’s been a while since I played a T20 international … but I think I’ll get the opportunity to certainly be available for selection in T20 cricket in the next year or so and hopefully be able to get some games in,” Smith attested.
“In an ideal world, I’d love to play every game. I don’t really like resting, but to be fair on this occasion I think it’s been the best thing for me. It’s nice to know that if I do have a rest, Davey can step up and do a terrific job,” Smith concluded.
