Star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood admits that Australia needs to pull their socks up in order to avoid a humiliating whitewash against England.

The script saw a complete turn around as England warps the ODI series 3-0 at Sydney after they were decimated by the host 4-0 in the Ashes.

With the last two matches a dead rubber now, Hazlewood feels there is a lot at stake for Australia as they try and prevent an embarrassing 5-0 series loss at home.

That is obviously the goal from here on in. England was in the same position I guess in the Test matches. There is always plenty to play for when you’re playing for your country, and it’s Australia Day on Friday obviously and the new stadium in Perth on Sunday,” Hazlewood said earlier today.

Australia fielded their pace trio together for the first time in the series. However, the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins found it tough to break the explosive English batting-order. After a strong start, Australia’s attack crumbled at the death as a brilliant Jos Buttler century propelled England to a match-winning score of 302 for 6.

That first 10 overs is probably the key time to take those wickets. I think we did that to a degree last time, (they were) 4-100 at some stage. You know you’re going to go for runs, it’s about taking wickets early to really get into their middle order,” Hazlewood added.

Hazlewood further feels that Australia hasn’t transitioned well from Test Cricket.

We haven’t quite transitioned from Test cricket as well as we could have. England has two sets of bowlers in some regards with only really (Chris) Woakes and (Moeen) Ali backing up, so they’re really one-day specialists and probably have shown us how to play in those regards,” he added further.

Hazlewood also admitted that England is a formidable force in the ODI format.
