Brian Lara’s record of highest individual score in Tests was in danger on Saturday with Australia opener David Warner going great guns against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval. The Australia star extended his stunning form in the ongoing season as he hammered his maiden triple century in Tests. However, before the world could see him taking a shot at Lara’s record of 400 runs, Tim Paine sensationally declared the innings.

David Warner was batting on 335 runs at that time and had already surpassed Sir Don Bradman and Mark Taylor’s highest Test scores. With the weather forecast not promising, Paine decided against keeping an individual record ahead of the team’s cause and called Warner and Matthew Wade back to the dressing room, much to everyone’s surprise. Australia had posted a mammoth total of 589 for 3 before declaring.

Australia’s bowlers, nonetheless, made the most of Paine’s decision by blowing away Pakistan’s top and middle-order. Led by Mitchell Starc’s 4-wicket haul, the hosts reduced the visitors to 96 for 6 at the end of second day’s play.

David Warner picks his man to break Brian Lara’s record:

At the end of day’s play, David Warner spoke about his monumental knock. During the conversation, he was also asked to name one man who he thinks could break Lara’s record. In reply, the Australia star picked the name of India’s Rohit Sharma who recently started opening in Tests. While Rohit Sharma is definitely one of the best batsmen in the white-ball format, he is yet to show that form in Tests.

However, Warner is confident that if there is one player who can score more than 400 runs in an innings then he is Rohit.

“If I had to name one player, I reckon it could be Rohit Sharma,” said Warner.

Well, Rohit does now how to play a big knock. He holds the record for highest individual score in ODIs for his monumental 264-run knock against Sri Lanka. He is also the only player to have scored three double tons in ODIs and four centuries in T20Is.
