Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals will square off in the second game of the 2020 edition of IPL in Dubai on Sunday. Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals are the two amongst the only three teams, who have not yet lifted the trophy. Hence, both sides would be keen on getting off to a blistering start.

Delhi Capitals, who are the hosts for the game, have received backing from plenty of experts and plaudits to lift the trophy this time. It is mainly due to the presence of many renowned Indian batsmen, who have Indian caps. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, skipper Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant comprise of an excellent top four.

They also have the lower-order batsmen to back it up in the form of Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, and Lalit Yadav. As far as the bowling department goes, Delhi Capitals have Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel, Anrich Nortje, and Daniel Sams as pace bowlers. The spin-bowling department is equally potent, comprising of Sandeep Lamichanne, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Amit Mishra, capable of exploiting the slow conditions in the UAE. All of them could come to play if the conditions demand.

As for Kings XI Punjab, they have the luxury of some of the tailormade T20 batsmen – both domestic and overseas. KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Agarwal, Glenn Maxwell, and Sarfaraz Khan could consider their places locked for the opener. Mandeep Singh is yet another talented player and could adopt the finishing role for the franchise at some stage.

Punjab will look up to Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman to trouble the batsmen in spin-friendly conditions while Ravi Bishnoi remains a surprise package. Mohammed Shami and Ishan Porel could have their spots locked; however, Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan face a tussle. Cottrell is a proven wicket-taking option with the new ball while Jordan is a death-over specialist.

Delhi Capitals look a better side slightly on paper, mainly due to their experienced set of spinners. As the batting line-up for both the teams remains neck to neck, a lot will depend on how the bowlers fare. In 26 matches so far between them, KXIP holds the upper hand, winning 16 and losing ten. It is also worth noting that Kings XI Punjab won all five games in the nation when a part of IPL took place in 2014. However, backing Delhi Capitals to come out on top here.
