Stepping down from captaincy did not bring any luck to wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik, in his very first outing as a non-captain against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Just like previous games, Karthik, who is naturally accustomed to the finisher’s role, was sent at the No.4 spot and the move, as it has in previous games, backfired substantially as DK was castled by Rahul Chahar for an underwhelming 8-ball 4.
Karthik had come to the crease following the dismissal of Nitish Rana, who fell to a pacy short-pitched delivery by Nathan Coulter-Nile.
With the team having lost two wickets for not many runs in the powerplay, the onus was on the duo of Shubman Gill and Dinesh Karthik to not only stop the flow of wickets but also accelerate the run-scoring.
And, the duo succumbed in achieving that as they fell on successive deliveries in Rahul Chahar’s first over.
At the time of writing, KKR was dealt with another body-blow as Jasprit Bumrah bounced out Andre Russell with a brute of a delivery.
