Ellyse Perry Ends Her 5 Years Of Marriage With Matt Toomua

Australia cricket superstar Ellyse Perry and Australian rugby union player Matt Toomua have left the sporting world in a shock by calling time on their relationship. The power couple, in a joint statement, confirmed they split earlier this year after almost five years of marriage.

“It’s with the greatest of respect for one another that we decided to separate earlier this year,” Ellyse Perry and Toomua said in a joint statement on Saturday.

“We felt this was the right course of action and is in the best interests of each other and our current lives. This is something that has evolved and is a mutual decision.

“Throughout our relationship we have remained private and we ask that our space and privacy continue to be respected during this difficult time for both of us,” the pair added.

Speculation about the pair’s split had first began in February when Ellyse Perry attended the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne without her wedding ring. The star allrounder further fuelled the speculation by not mentioning Toomua in her acceptance speech when she won the Belinda Clark award for Australia’s best female cricketer for a third consecutive year.

However, the couple insisted they were still together and that cricketer didn’t wear her ring due to a swollen finger. Ellyse Perry and Toomua had announced their relationship in 2013 when they appeared at the John Eales Medal awards night. They got engaged in 2014 before tying the knot a year later.

Earlier this year, Ellyse Perry helped Australia win the T20 World Cup at home. She starred for the hosts although she missed the final against India. On the other hand, Toomua, who is a member of the Melbourne Rebels, played a staring role in the club’s 29-10 win against the NSW Waratahs on Friday night.
