Former England captain Michael Vaughan wants England’s top three batters to perform well in the ongoing Test at Headingley. Michael Vaughan also feels that England should not rely too much on Ben Stokes to score runs in every game.

After losing two opening games, England have a good chance to win the 3rd Test by chasing down a 251-run target in the final innings. At the start of day 4, England need 224 more runs to grab victory in the match. The home side also have all 10 wickets in their kitty.

Want To See A Little bit Of Something From Top 3: Michael Vaughan

While speaking to Cricbuzz, cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Vaughan warned England against too much dependence on Ben Stokes in the final innings of the 3rd Test. Vaughan wants England’s top three batters to perform so that they build confidence before heading into the next game.

“If it comes down to Ben Stokes again, with Ben walking in requiring 110/130, the well is only so deep. He can’t keep producing it. Want to see a little bit of something from that top 3. They need it for their own individual confidence going to Old Trafford.” Michael Vaughan said.

Vaughan also shed light on England opener Zak Crawley’s performance, who has grabbed the opening position for quite some time now. The 48-year-old said Zak Crawley has a great chance to prove his worth in the ongoing Test encounter.

“England consistently pick Zak Crawley. He’s in the side for a long long time. He has played 37 Test matches, averaging 28. He never looks out of form, plays glorious shots and suddenly gets out. It’s a great chance for Zak Crawley tomorrow to repay the faith in him.

They keep picking him, they like this momentum that he shifts towards the team. Even if he gets 20 or 30, it’s always quick. They like it, Baz McCullum loves the momentum he creates.” Vaughan further said.

Ben Stokes has been a core strength for England’s batting in Ashes 2023 so far. In the 2nd Test, he hit a marvelous 155-run in a losing cause when chasing 371. In the ongoing Test, the left-handed batter smacked 80 runs in the 1st innings to pull out his team from a batting collapse at the start.
